In an effort to give back to the community, I decided to make healthy recipe cards for residents of Washington Highlands.
While driving around with the Mobile Market last growing season, I frequently heard Benjamin Bartley, the Mobile Market director, share recipe ideas for cooking the produce that they were selling. He says that people were often unfamiliar with some of the produce, so he offered recipes in order to encourage people to try something new. I thought that a free recipe card would be a good way to offer people ideas of how to eat healthy and also a way to share my project. Wheeler Market is still working hard to carry fresh produce, and in the meantime, they can display recipe cards that I designed and printed at their counter. While they do not yet carry the fresh ingredients in the recipes, hopefully this will act as a reminder for people to buy healthy, and maybe even encourage people to request fresh from the nearby stores.
